學校概況：
西澳大學是一所公立研究型大學，主校區位於州首府珀斯，在距離珀斯約五小時車程的奧班尼設立副校區，該大學是澳洲第六古老的大學，在1973年莫道克大學成立以前，他是西澳唯一一所大學。

學校歷史背景：
西澳大學的歷史要追溯到1910年間。當年約翰·溫斯羅普·哈克特爵士(Sir John Winthrop Hackett)在結束皇家委員會一職時，向委員會提出建立西澳大學，提案在隔年通過後並於1913年三月招收第一批學生，學校一開始成立三個學院，工程，科學和藝術學院，首批的學生有814人，他們在市中心歐文街的教學大樓上課，一直到1932年，西澳大學才搬遷至Crawley校區。
建校校長約翰·溫斯羅普·哈克特爵士在1916 年去世，他對學校的用心經營為西澳大學留下425,000 英鎊的財產，遠遠超過預期，這筆財產足以建設Crawley校區，另外，他的遺贈也資助許多項獎學金，目的是希望幫助家境貧寒的學生，讓他們不用因為負擔不起學費而無法念書。為了紀念約翰·溫斯羅普·哈克特爵士，現今大學內有許多建築物都以他的名字命名，包括 Winthrop Hall 和 Hackett Hall。
西澳大學在1946年設立哲學博士學位，在1950年首次授予Warwick Bottomley，以表彰他對西澳洲本土植物化學的研究。該大學陸續出現多名名人，像是1983年至1993年間擔任澳大利亞聯邦總理的鮑勃·霍克(Bob Hawke)、獲得2005年諾貝爾生理學或醫學獎的西澳大學教授巴里.馬歇爾(Barry Marshall)，及2016年首次發現了地球引力波的大衞.布萊爾教授(David Blair)團隊。
