學校概況：
布里斯托大學（University of Bristol），位於英格蘭西部布里斯托市的一所英國大學，其歷史可追溯到1876年建立的布里斯托大學學院。
該校是英國老牌頂尖大學「紅磚」高等學府之一，也是被稱為英國常春藤聯盟之稱的羅素大學集團創始成員。該大學在各大世界排名中穩居英國大學十強，世界排名在前100以內。
著名校友包含多位不同領域的諾貝爾獎獲得者、外交官、音樂家、企業家、大學校長和議員等。
學校歷史背景：
布里斯托大學的第一個學院即布里斯托醫學院成立於1833年，至1876年先後成立的幾個學院合併為一個大學整體即布里斯托大學學院（University College, Bristol)，於1909年得到皇家憲章並更名為布里斯托大學。 校徽含義：布里斯托大學的盾徽由五個象徵組成,包括太陽代表Wills家族，馬代表Fry家族，海豚代表Colston家族，打開的書代表學習,中間的船舶和城堡來自中世紀布里斯托市的印章。
1893年，布里斯托大學學院與布里斯托醫學院合併。學院與Merchant Venturers技術學院（Merchant Venturers' Technical College）於1909年合併成為布里斯托大學，並得到皇家認證（Royal Charter）。
1929年至1965年，前英國首相溫斯頓·邱吉爾曾任該校校監，時間長達36年。
大學分六個學術部門：人文藝術學部（Faculty of Arts）、科學學部（Faculty of Science）、工程學部（Faculty of Engineering）、 醫藥學與牙醫學部（Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry）、 社會科學與法律學部（Faculty of Social Sciences and Law）、醫學科學與獸醫科學學部（Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences），其中以醫學、法律、經濟與金融學、工程與物理學最為聞名。
布里斯托大學也是英國中產階級家庭最青睞的大學之一，時至今日，其學生來自中產家庭的比例依然高達87%，僅次於牛津大學以及劍橋大學，有如《星期日泰晤士報》所評論的：「Bristol has long been a natural alternative to Oxbridge」

布里斯托是英格蘭英國西南區域一座人口眾多的大城市，早在11世紀已建立了獨立的城堡，12世紀則發展成一個貿易港口。由於對外貿易興旺，13世紀布里斯托成為造船中心。在15至16世紀，歐洲展開了開發美洲新大陸的風潮，而對正大西洋的布里斯托，更加是奴隸貿易中心，大量奴隸被販賣到美洲。自十九世紀起布里斯托開始受到鄰近利物浦市的競爭，布里斯托的對外港口地位已有所下降。這時布里斯托轉變為一個工業中心，並且開始有鐵路連接至首都倫敦。
布里斯托的傳統產業以農業、紡織業和工程業為主。航空工業始於1910年，歷史悠久，實力強大。英國航空公司在布里斯托開始製作汽車，在1940年代成立布里斯托汽車（Bristol Cars），在設於佛利頓的廠房手造豪華房車。1960年布里斯托汽車脫離航空公司自主獨立，這也使得布里斯托爾成為重要的汽車輸出港。自2008年在保持傳統產業優勢的基礎上，該市的產業結構正向金融業、保險業、服務業和高科技產業轉變。布里斯托是一批跨國公司的歐洲總部所在地。許多高科技公司如惠普、意法半導體都在當地投資設廠。電信業尤為發達，多媒體技術的研發與應用在世界居領先地位。現今的布里斯托乃英國重要的航天、高科技及金融貿易中心，擁有一個國際機場、兩所大學：布里斯托大學和西英格蘭大學。
布里斯托的旅遊業也很有名，以每年八月的布里斯托國際熱氣球節在全球享譽盛名。
